My Story
David began his career as a family solicitor and, over the years, has accumulated significant experience in the field of financial remedies and private children law. He has been National Head of Family Law at Addleshaw Goddard and, subsequently, Mills & Reeve.
David’s career as a Judge commenced in 1985, when he was appointed Deputy Registrar/District Judge. He went on to become an Assistant Recorder in 1991, Recorder in 1995 and Deputy High Court Judge in 2011 before retiring in 2022. Some of his reported authorities include B v B [2012] 2 FLR 22, MG v AG (Appeal out of time: Relief from sanctions) [2020] EWFC B49 and W v H (Financial Remedies: Pensions) [2021] EWFC B63.
He was a member of the Family Procedure Rules Committee between 2004 and 2014 and a Member of the Pensions Advisory Group in 2019, and has authored and edited a number of legal publications including the Family Court Practice, Butterworths Family Law Service and Pension Sharing in Practice. He is a past Chairman of Resolution and a past President of the International Academy of Family Lawyers. David has been sitting as a Private FDR Judge since 2019.
